East Texas Farm Lets You Pick the Berries
We're in a prime place to grow blueberries, and the season is peaking right now. If you're looking for a fun family outing this summer, take a road trip to this East Texas orchard and come back with a huge bucket full of produce.
Panola Orchard and Gardens is located in De Berry, southeast of Marshall near Elysian Fields. They grow blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, peaches, and plums there. When you're based in a town named De Berry, you cannot grow asparagus. You must grow berries, and they do it well.
The owners tell us how it works on their Facebook page. They said the pick prices are $15/gallon or $2.50/lb for blueberries and $16/gallon or $3.20/lb for blackberries. Think of the blueberry pies, cobblers, jellies, and salsas we could crank out with a gallon of berries. Those little ole pints at the grocery store only hold a handful, but this haul will be the size of a milk jug. And we get to pack up the family and make a day of it.
Texas is so good at giving us ideas for things to do with the family over summer. It's way better than a fidget spinner!
The blueberry and blackberry picking days and times are Mon-Sat 8:00am-5:30pm, and Sun. 1-5pm.
