(Tyler, Texas) Water. It's a necessity for life on planet Earth. It's necessary for human, animal, and plant survival. It's plentiful here in East Texas, and we often take it for granted that we have it. Now, residents of the City of Tyler are being asked to conserve and limit the amount of water they use and consume at the moment.

The City of Tyler and Tyler Water Utilities (TWU) are asking city residents to cut back on their water usage by 10% while a major issue is being corrected at a water treatment plant.

TWU has activated Stage 2 of the City's Drought Contingency and Emergency Demand Management Plan, calling for a reduction in total daily water use by 10 percent to help protect the water system and maintain reliable citywide service during this treatment plant outage.

Why Tyler Is Activating Stage 2 Water Restrictions

The reason is that the Lake Palestine Water Treatment Plant was taken offline due to multiple critical equipment failures and flooding in the filter pipe gallery, according to a city release. TWU is relying upon the Golden Road Water Treatment Plant to supply water to the entire city until the flooding issue can be resolved and the equipment failures are repaired.

The Golden Road Water Treatment Plant can typically meet the requirements of daily water needs for the city during this time of the year; any large water main break or sudden surge in demand could cause system pressure issues and may fall below safe operating levels.

While we haven't seen the activation of Stage 2 of the City’s Drought Contingency and Emergency Demand Management Plan in quite some time, water use and restrictions are now in place for the City of Tyler.
