School has started and the fall routine has begun, but there's already a three-day weekend ahead that's begging for us to goof off.  Ideas, we need ideas!

Catching a high school football game or throwing a backyard barbecue are great ways to embrace the extra-long weekend.  And shopping too of course!  There are good deals on electronics, appliances, and mattresses, we hear.

But if you want to hit the road for a little bigger adventure, these fun Texas destinations might be just what we need to celebrate the end of summer.

TourTexas.com also says Galveston is a good option for a Labor Day weekend getaway if you're in a beachy mood.  Schlitterbahn-Galveston has a tropical vibe, and if you've gone all summer without hopping on a water slide you're about out of time and this is a great place to get that off your list.  The Historic District and Moody Gardens are waiting there too.

Burnet is a good option if state parks are your thing.  Canyon of the Eagles Nature Park has 14 miles of hiking trails, and Lake Buchanan is a hot spot for bass fishing. And if you love wine, there are several wineries in the Hill Country, and Bed 'n Breakfasts when you're ready to crash.

And New Braunfels for floating on the river, checking out live music at Gruene Hall, and discovering some new craft breweries.  And there's another Schlitterbahn there too.

Those are some out-of-town ideas, and we know East Texas has plenty of hidden gems to visit this weekend too.  Your back yard smells delightful, like ribs, burgers, and beer.  We'll be right over.

Gas prices are the lowest they've been in years over Labor Day Weekend and prices are expected to drop this fall too, so it's a great time for a road trip.  Pack some nuts, protein drinks, some frozen grapes, and our mobile app, and it's on.  Have a great holiday!
