NET Health is out each day inspecting restaurants in Tyler, Texas and throughout Smith County, Texas to make sure they comply with health regulations and to address any shortcomings the restaurant may have.

These inspections are routine and restaurants know they can be subjected to a routine, monthly, or annual inspection. These results are then posted inside the establishment for any patron to review along with being posted online on the NET Health website.

For the most part restaurants in Tyler, Whitehouse, Lindale, and throughout Smith County do a good job when it comes to cleanliness, storage practices, and preparing food that is safe for the public to consume.

Since the beginning of 2024, NET Health has inspected 24 restaurants. Of those 24, 11 performed outstandingly and had no demerits, while the other 13 had at least 2 demerits while one had 18.

Of those 13 with at least two demerits, the biggest issues were:

  • cooling of prepared foods
  • cold foods held above 45 degrees
  • hot foods held below 135 degrees
  • some food not thouroughly cooked

While these issues can be easily rectified it is up to the kitchen manager to make sure foods are being held at the proper temperatures. In most cases, the food that was out of temperature was either quickly cooled back down or reheated to the right temperature, and anything that was out of temp for more than four hours was discarded.

NET Health isn't just responsible for inspecting restaurants, the agency inspects locations like nursing homes, grocery/convenience stores, schools, and food trucks, basically anywhere food is prepared for public consumption.
