Olympic Flame Dies, Has to be Lit Again

Don't freak out people -- it was planned! According to tradition, the flame has to burn inside its cauldron for the duration of the game, however it went out this Sunday, 11:14pm London time. The whole event was planned as a part of technicians needing to move the cauldron to a new location in the stadium. So how did they move it and still keep in tradition? Glad you asked!

They sent an ex-torch bearer from the 1948 Olympics, Austin Playfoot, up in a cherry-picker to light a torch. Then the gas was cut and the cauldron was moved to it's new location and then re-lit with the torch of Mr. Playfoot.
