Happy Easter, My Friend. How Was Your Day?
If you spent Easter Sunday in East Texas this year, can I ask you: Could the weather have been any more perfect? Just gorgeous. I hope you had a truly wonderful day.
Easter means many different things to different people. The ways we spend the day varies as much as our personalities. We have different traditions, family dynamics, and activities with which we fill up our holidays.
My family and I keep things pretty low-key, nowadays. Really, we just like to get together and chat, eat yummy stuff, chat some more, and so on. Because the weather was so optimal, we decided to get a giant blanket, spread it out, and lay on the grass under the trees to eat our dessert--carrot cake, OMG.
So after dessert, my sister and I ended up laying back on the blanket and staring up at the trees for awhile. There's something about seeing the world from a different perspective physically that helps me see things from a different mental perspective, too. Nature has a huge effect on the human psyche. (See this post for more on that.)
When I was younger, my favorite season was autumn, which I still adore. However, the older I get, the more I appreciate the springtime. Perhaps it's not difficult to understand why humans might enjoy a season all about rejuvenation the older they get. ;)
Interestingly, one thing that most of our traditions have in common at this time of year, is the idea of renewal, rebirth, reawakening. It's easier to feel this vibe when it coincides with springtime and the blooming world around us. Things are reviving and the warmth has returned...but it's quite gentle right now. Inviting. We may sense that we ourselves are invited into this season of rejuvenation and re-imagining our lives, if we'd like. It's quite invigorating.
Also, for any of us who set some 2019 New Year's Resolutions and feel that we've not stayed on the path to achieve those, why not use today and this season as a good time to get back up and keep going? In fact, no matter the day--Easter, New Year's or a random Tuesday in August--every morning is also a chance to get up and keep going. That's an encouraging thought.
Anyway, those are my thoughts for today. It was a good day. I hope yours was, too. How did you spend your Easter? Any new traditions this year? Leave a comment or reach out anytime at firstname.lastname@example.org.
