A Dallas Fort Worth police officer is now behind bars after being charged with the murder of an unarmed woman babysitting her nephew after responding to a wellness call.

According to WFAA, 34-year-old Aaron Dean who is white was arrested yesterday (October 14) and being held on a $200,000 bond.  Dean responded to the home of 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson, who is a black, early Saturday morning after a neighbor called to report that her door was open.

Dean proceeded to the side of the house when he suddenly shouted at Jefferson to show her hands and opened fire through a window killing her.

Sargent Chris Daniels of the Fort Worth Police Department read a statement in regards to the arrest,

At approximately 6 p.m. Aaron Dean was arrested for the murder of Ms. Jefferson and he has since been booked into the Tarrant County Jail. Our department is working closely with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office. Our Major Case and Internal Affairs Units are continuing to work around the clock to ensure no stone is left unturned and justice for Ms. Jefferson’s family and community is served.

Mayor Betsy Price was very disturbed by the shooting saying there is nothing that can be justified by what happened Saturday. Nothing.

Dean could face state charges and the case was submitted to the FBI to review for potential federal civil rights charges.

He bonded out of Tarrant County Jail as of 9:48 p.m. and no longer appeared in jail records.

God bless the life of Atatiana Jefferson.
