The Tyler Civil Air Patrol will host a pancake and waffle breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at its headquarters, 1594 Dixie Drive at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport. In addition to the already happy thought of pancakes and waffles, you'll enjoy scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, milk, juice, and of course, coffee. :)
It's open to the public and of course donations are welcome and greatly needed for them to continue their mission. "What's their mission," you may ask? I'm so glad you did. I wasn't aware myself until recently.
On the 4th of July I had the pleasure of running into the Tyler Squadron during the 'Vintage Warbird Air Show' at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport and was blown away by what I learned about this organization.
For example, take a look at their official mission statement:
"to develop young men and women (ages 12-18/21) into the leaders of tomorrow by providing training in leadership, aerospace, emergency services, communications, fitness, public speaking, planning, writing, ethics, drill and color guard, and character development."
That's an enormously important mission statement. Training our young people in ways that cause them to become the type of adults we'd all aspire to be, and want to have, in our society.
The donations from this event will go back into the Civil Air Patrol general fund and will be used to fuel not only their important training, but the subsequent services they carry out such as: search and rescue, provide comfort in difficult times, and protect our country here at home. In fact, there's much more to this story and I'd like to share that with you in my next post. We all need to learn more about the Civil Air Patrol and, if we can, support these efforts.
Connect with the Tyler Civil Air Patrol via their Facebook page and stay tuned. The next post is following shortly.
