This weekend is the last weekend you’ll be able to ride The Texas Chute Out and Flashback at Six Flags Over Texas.  The park will stop operating these thrill rides Monday evening and the space will be occupied by a new thrill ride called the Texas SkyScreamer which will open in 2013!

For the second time in six months, the nationwide Powerball lottery reached a record jackpot.  Last nights jackpot was the fourth highest in the lottery’s history at $337 million.  According to ABC News,  there was only one winning ticket sold.

The start of a new school year is just days away and with that bring the return of high school sports and activities.  Right now across East Texas many football programs are on the field practicing their plays that will hopefully take them to the state championship.  As the football teams prepare, so do the high school bands.  Tyler’s Robert E. Your final chance to ride two iconic rides at Six Flags Over Texas will be Labor Day.  The park will be closing the Texas Chute Out along with Flashback after decades of service to make way for a yet to be announced new attraction for the park.

The City of Tyler is giving offenders a chance to take care of their unresolved warrants before facing jail time.  In a program called the “Second Chance Warrant Program“, the Tyler Municipal Court is offering the chance to work out a payment schedule to get the fine paid off.

I want to start this post off with this little disclaimer: I am not making fun or mocking anyone and I definitely do not want to hurt anyone’s feelings with the topic of this post!  There were several of us at dinner the other night and the conversation, as with any dinner was varied, but someone brought up the subject of words that are usually pronounced wrong here in East Texas.

When Six Flags Fiesta Texas opened their gates in 1992, the park had one roller coaster, The Rattler.  After millions of riders throughout its 20 year history, The Rattler will give thrill seekers their last ride on its nearly mile long track on August 5th.

The 4th of July is coming up Wednesday and firework stands have opened up all around East Texas.  In my neighborhood alone, there are four stands selling the them and I’m sure I’ll be stopping by one of them soon to buy some because my daughter has asked when we’re buying fireworks!  She began asking the day she saw those portable stands show up on the roadside.

Today’s employees are being freed from a 9-to-5 job thanks to smartphones, mobile apps and the cloud. As a result of technology that’s allowing employees to do many things outside the office, many bosses aren’t looking at the time clock that closely any more.
