White Oak Superintendent Says Scripture Readings Will Not Continue
White Oak ISD Superintendent Michael Gilbert has confirmed that while the 'Thought of the Day' will continue to be included in morning announcements at White Oak High School, it will no longer include Biblical scripture.
"We'll still be doing our thoughts of the day and it will be something that promotes positive thoughts and positive choices," Gilbert told KLTV.
This change comes after Principal Dan Noll's morning announcements were recorded by a student and later published online.
Although many residents support prayer in school, the Freedom From Religion Foundation threatened to file a lawsuit if the school continued to violate the Constitution.
"It doesn't matter about what the majority feels," FFRF Attorney Sam Grover said. "The constitution is designed to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority."
