Missing Grandy’s? Here’s Where to Find One in Texas

(Mix 93-1) I'm feeling a bit nostalgic while I write this because I am missing the tastes of Grandy's Restaurant.

Remembering Grandy’s Classic Comfort Food

Up until late March 2025, folks in Tyler and across East Texas could stop by Grandy’s Restaurant on Beckham Avenue near the hospital district for a good ole chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, catfish meal, or fried chicken paired with mashed potatoes, okra, corn, or some green beans with a couple of dinner rolls for lunch or dinner. And afterwards, finish off the meal with a fresh-baked cinnamon roll, or as Grandy's calls it, a 'Sinnamon Roll'!

There was nothing better than starting the day out at Grandy's thanks to their country-style breakfast, which also served up that Sinnamon Roll!

I think many Tylerites and East Texans, including myself, are missing Grandy's right about now. Just like the orange and white stripes of Whataburger mean you can get a burger at any time of the day, the brick building with a green metal roof and white stripes meant that fried chicken, catfish, and a chicken-fried steak were always waiting for you.

The Decline of a Texas Chain

It appears now as if Grandy's is losing even more locations. The restaurant chain used to boast more than 200 restaurants at the height of its popularity, with restaurants scattered throughout Texas, New Mexico, Georgia, and Oklahoma; now it has 16 remaining locations open. One location in Georgia, one in Las Cruces, New Mexico, three in Oklahoma, and 11 in Texas.

Where to Find the Nearest Grandy’s

I guess now if I want to sink my teeth into one of those Sinnamon Rolls, I'm going to have to make a road trip to Balch Springs (off I-20 near Dallas) or head northeast to Texarkana. Those are the closest remaining Grandy's locations to Tyler.
