Today (June 14th) is Flag Day. Since President Truman signed an Act of Congress in 1949, Americans have taken time every June 14 to honor the symbol of freedom that our military men and women fight to protect on a daily basis.

I remember the days and weeks following 9/11 when it seemed every house and business around town had the stars and strips flying high and proud. Sadly, in the months and years since then, the number of people flying their US flag has diminished. I don't think it's anything people do on purpose. It's just something most of us take for granted. Our freedom is something we forget could be taken from us at any moment -- if not for the brave men and women in uniform that protect it day-in and day-out.

I personally could sit and watch a flag blowing in the wind for hours on end. There is something about the way it flaps in the wind, high atop a flag pole with a crystal clear blue sky in the background. It puts a lump in my throat every time I think about it.

I found this cool video on YouTube done to the old Johnny Cash 'Old Ragged Flag' song. Check it out and get your flag out of storage and fly it high today!
