Speaking of getting prepared, those kids will need new clothes, uniforms, shoes, backpacks, sports equipment, and school supplies.
Thanks to the Texas Sales Tax Holiday weekend, you can save money on those items and other qualifying items by not paying the sales tax!
Texas Sales Tax Holiday Weekend is August 9th - 11th
As long as you purchase qualifying items from a retailer or an online store during the Texas Sales Tax Holiday weekend, you will not have to pay the state sales tax on those items. There are limits set as to how much a qualifying item may be and as long as it doesn't exceed that set price it will be tax-free. This goes for items purchased in traditional brick-and-mortar businesses as well as online.
Qualifying items include:
- clothing
- footwear
- school supplies
- face masks
- backpacks (under $100)
The Texas Comptroller has a complete list of qualifying items that will be exempt from paying taxes during this three-day weekend.
While this sales tax holiday will save you some money by not having to pay state sales tax, local sales tax will still apply. Only purchases made on these days may be tax-exempt. Be sure to check out the Texas Comptroller's website for all the inclusions and exclusions.
Now go ahead and stock up on pencils, pens, paper, highlighters, dry-erase markers, spiral and composition books, scissors, glue, crayons, map pencils, and erasers because you're going to need more by the time January or February rolls around!
