It's Memorial Day, a day when the United States as a nation reflects on the military personnel who've lost their lives fighting for their country. What began a Decoration Day after the Civil War to commemorate the soldiers who lost their lives in battle has since been expanded and renamed to address all Americans who have died during military service.

Driving through Chandler yesterday, I saw an awesome display honoring those military service men and women who have given their life to protect our freedoms that we enjoy today. The simple field of flags was an amazing site. Watching them fly in the wind as I sat at the signal light at Hwy. 31 and FM 315 was though provoking.
The service men and women of our country make huge sacrifices to fight battles on our behalf and keep the freedoms we hold dear. One of those sacrifices is being away from their families and loved ones for long periods of time. The only thing that makes this sacrifice bearable for most is the incredible sweetness of coming home, even if it is only for a short leave.
