“Mood Follows Action”
"Mood Follows Action."
This is one of my favorite sayings. I've heard it attributed to various sources, so forgive me that I can't say who originally said these wise words definitively. Most recently it was said by fitness guru, Rich Roll. Whoever said it, thank you. It has changed my mood, my days, and subsequently my life.
For many years, I always had the understanding that in order to accomplish or tackle anything, we needed to be in the "right frame of mind." So, if weren't just chomping at the bit to move forward on something--whatever that may be, big or small--we were sort of held hostage by the fact that we just didn't feel inspired. The problem is, when you don't feel inspired, this becomes a justification for doing...well, nothing.
It seems so simple doesn't it? Don't feel like it? Do it anyway. Are you afraid to take the next step toward toward the goal? Do it anyway. Don't even feel like making the bed or taking a walk? Whatevs...do it.
It works like magic in my experience. Every single time in my life I've made myself do the thing I've been avoiding, once I've begun, I feel MUCH more inspired to continue. When I've not had the energy to exercise but just do it, in about ten minutes I have more energy than I've had in a week. Don't wanna write this blog post? Start writing and before you know it, my fingers are practically moving on their own.
Be encouraged. Move forward. You are not held hostage by your current mood. Walk toward your goals and take action. Your mood will soon follow.
