Jack in the Box Plans Major Closures by Year’s End
(Mix 93-1) There's nothing like it in the world. It's a unique food item that comes from a man who has a round white head, a couple of blue dots for eyes, a black coned nose, a huge red smile, and a yellow pointed coned crown on the top of his head.
I'm talking about Jack in the Box tacos. These tacos are one of a kind, and they will no longer be served at nearly 200 Jack in the Box locations because they will be closed down by the end of the year, with more happening in 2026.
There's just something about that deep-fried taco and a Jumbo Jack that just can't be beat. At one point, Tyler and Longview had multiple Jack in the Box locations, but now each city has only one.
Jack in the Box will close 200 locations by the end of 2025
Jack in the Box announced in a corporate call last month that it would be closing down nearly 200 locations nationwide. The company's CEO announced the new initiative called "JACK on Track", a transformative period for the fast food giant.
The program is aimed at closing underperforming stores, increasing finances, and moving to a simpler, more profitable model.
The closures are likely to come from underperforming stores and locations that are beginning to show their age. A press release states some locations have been operating for more than 30 years without change.

So if you've ever had to wait a long time for that taco, those curly fries, and a root beer, your location could be in jeopardy of closing.
Could East Texas locations be closing?
Well, within the last five to ten years, Tyler has lost four locations, and Longview has lost at least two locations. So far, there hasn't been a list of closures yet, but with nearly 200 restaurants on the chopping block nationwide, it could be possible that some may close around the area.
Looking at the Jack in the Box locations from their website, there are locations in:
- Tyler
- Longview
- Texarkana
- Terrell
- Sulphur Springs
- Palestine
- Paris
- Lufkin
- Livingston
- Gilmer
- Diboll
The company says the closures will happen by the end of the year, and they will reevaluate the remaining underperforming stores in 2026 and franchise termination dates, where more closures could happen in 2026.
Jack in the Box already has plans to close 1% of their stores annually.

Let's hope the next time you go through a Jack in the Box drive-through in East Texas, it isn't yours or my last time, because I just need those tacos!
