95 Years Ago, This Airline Had Their First Passenger Flight In Texas
Throughout the years, Texas has been a state filled with history.
Many firsts have happened in this state, and when you learn about them it gives us a boost of Texas pride. It could be a certain type of food, or a major historical event perhaps. You always learn something interesting everyday don't you?
One of those items that has shown growth throughout the years is none other than travel. Hard to believe, but we've grown from horses and wagons, to high speed trains and cars. But there's another type of travel we'll be focusing on.
We turn to the airline world, as in June of 1929, an airline many know today had its first passenger flight in the Lone Star State. But who could it be?
A Major Airline Has Their First Passenger Flight From Where?
Well, if your guess was Delta Air Lines, well you're correct! Delta Air Lines' first passenger flight took place on June 17th, 1929:
As reported by the company themselves, the Travel Air S-6000-B place took off from Dallas and made its way to Jackson, Mississippi. The flight also had to stop in Monroe and Shreveport, Louisiana before making it to the target destination.
What's even more interesting is that there was only one pilot and one passenger aboard the plane in question. The company reportedly didn't reveal the flight was happening, due to multiple factors.
Even more interesting? One way fare was only $47.25! What we wouldn't give to have those prices again.
Also, as the son of a Delta pilot, I love learning more about the company he works for.
