Texas Sting Nabs Suspect at Athens Walmart

(KNUE-FM) Thanks to law enforcement in East Texas there was recently another undercover sting operation that took place and a man was arrested and charged with soliciting a child online. While no one wants to hear about these things taking place, we cannot thank our law enforcement officers for doing everything possible to stop this behavior in our area.

According to CBS 19, 33-year-old Oscar Campos of Kerens was booked into the Henderson County Jail on charges of online solicitation of a minor and evading arrest earlier this week.

How the Henderson County Sting Operation Unfolded

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Henderson County Crimes Against Children Task Force’s undercover online operation led to the arrest that took place at the Walmart store in Athens, Texas.

What Investigators Say Happened at the Athens Walmart

Campos allegedly believed he was having online and phone conversations that were sexual in nature with someone he believed was a child. When Campos arrived at Walmart, he attempted to enter the vehicle he thought the child was in but was instead met with an investigator.

What Charges the Suspect Could Still Face

Campos immediately attempted to run from the scene but was arrested by officers. The case is currently still under investigation and additional charges could be added.

These types of online stings are not new to East Texas; in fact, they happen regularly, yet law enforcement doesn’t have to wait long until someone attempts to break the law. Once again, a huge thank you to all law enforcement officers who are working to end this type of crime here in East Texas.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
