It's the one night that kids all across East Texas look forward to for months, however Halloween this year could be threatened by some severe weather in East Texas.

Kids (and their parents) plan for weeks on what they are going to be dressed as on Halloween when they go trick or treating. It appears as if all that planning could be put into jeopardy with a cold front that is approaching East Texas. Similar to last year, it looks as if rain could ruin Halloween trick or treating for thousands of kids here in East Texas.

KLTV 7 Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto and Katie Vossler have deemed Wednesday afternoon and evening to be a 'First Alert Weather Day' because of the threat of severe weather. Wednesday morning will start out cloudy and drizzly with a few light showers, but by afternoon heavier rain and thunderstorms are expected to ramp up.

These storms will be arriving from the northeast by afternoon ahead of the cold front and could become severe with the following effects:

  • damaging winds
  • hail
  • isolated tornadoes

The further south you go through East Texas the chances increase for the potential of severe weather to develop. Rain will come to an end overnight Wednesday and bring in cooler air for Thursday and the weekend. There's the silver lining - a nice weekend - but kids could lose out on collecting a lot of candy.

Hopefully the kids can get a little trick or treating in before the weather gets really bad. Be careful out there and stay weather aware!
