Grab the fishing gear and fish for free with the kids, family and friends at Texas state parks. With your paid admission to Tyler State Park or any other Texas state park, you can fish without the need of a required fishing license or stamps. You just need to bring your gear, patience and determination that you're going to reel in the big one out of that stream, river, pond, lake or ocean!

The free fishing applies to more than 70 state parks and the wildlife management areas across Texas, so there's plenty of opportunities for you to take advantage of this gift from the state. Texas Parks and Wildlife website says,

Free fishing applies to fishing in rivers and creeks, from bank or pier. You can also wade fish in the surf along the shore of our coastal state parks. You may be able to fish for free from a boat on lakes or ponds that are fully enclosed in a state park."

Regular bag limits and lengths do apply along with all other regulations. If you're not familiar with those, make sure you check with a park ranger before casting that hook. If for some reason you want to fish and don't have fishing gear, some parks will loan out fishing equipment and Tyler State Park is among those parks that have loaner equipment, for a list of other parks just check here.

This year round program is courtesy of Texas Parks and Wildlife. Look for learn to fish events along with other special activities at a state park near you.
