The East Texas Food Bank has teamed up with Green Acres Baptist Church and the George Henderson Expo Center to provide the community a mega drive thru for families in need of food.

This past Friday, the East Texas Food Bank provided a drive thru at Lindsey Park in Tyler from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. Lauren Barnes, marketing and communications coordinator for the East Texas Food Bank said,

“Even as the pandemic is ending, we are still seeing an increased need for food assistance. As of March 2021, 240,000 people in East Texas are facing hunger. That means 1 in 5 East Texans, including 1 in 4 children, are at-risk of hunger”

If you or someone you know is in need of food and would like to benefit by receiving food for your household all you have to do is show up in a vehicle. No walk up are accepted at all. These drive up events are open to anyone. There is no application or interview process that you have to go through. Just show up in a vehicle to pick up food for your family. Carpooling is allowed, so if you and your neighbor or friend want to ride in the same vehicle and get food for both homes you can. Even if you want to pick up food for an elderly person or someone that can not get out and about, all they have to do is provide a note stating that they would like for you to pick up their food for them and the East Texas Food Bank will load your vehicle up with food for them,

If you missed this past Friday, your next opportunity to participate in the drive thru will be:

  • Saturday, July 24th in Tyler at Green Acres Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

  •  Tuesday, July 27th in Lufkin at George Henderson Expo Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
