A College Station Favorite That Has Been Loved By Aggies And Locals For Decades May Have Birthed A Popular Competitor.

I was watching Youtube today and came across one of my favorite shows "The Daytripper" with Chet Gardner and the episode I watched was when the gang visited College Station, Texas which is home of Texas A&M.

Now I've been to College Station before but only for work, so I never got to check the city out in its entirety so I was curious as to what they would feature on the show.

One Of Their Stops Was Layne's Chicken Fingers.

As I watched the segment about Layne's Chicken Fingers which told the story of how back in 1994, Mike Layne opened the doors of the original location in College Station. After the restaurant gained a following, A&M grad Mike Garratt became sole owner of Layne’s.

The restaurant has since began expanded into 13 locations across Texas but I couldn't help but notice that their "menu" was kind of similar to that of the massively popular "Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers".

Turns Out My Suspicions Were Correct.

Turns out, while Layne's opened in 1994, Todd Graves opened the first Cane’s in Baton Rouge, near LSU in 1996...2 years after Layne's. Interesting to this observer. Let's do a quick comparison:

• Both Serve Chicken Fingers
• Both Serve Crinkle Cut Fries
• Both restaurants serve Texas toast with their meals.
• Both places have their "signature sauce" that are very similar in taste.

Now I'm not accusing anyone of ANYTHING, but it just can't be a coincidence that one is biting another one's swag, even up to the NAME? You be the judge.
