1 Out Of 10 Texas Landlords Admit They Ignore Their Tenants’ Requests
Do you ever the feeling that your landlord is ignoring your maintenance requests? Well, new data shows you may be on to something.
I Know The Feeeling
When I was 24 years old, I owned a building and had a bright future as a young homeowner.
I was also immature, and being that I didn't have any prior ownership experience, after about a year and I ended up selling.
I found myself not taking my tenant's requests seriously and only prioritizing the major repairs that needed to be done.
That’s why I can relate to the new Texas survey released about landlords admitting they purposely delay or disregard issues reported by their tenants.
Survey Says...
Law firm Belluck and Fox conducted an anonymous survey of over 3,000 Texas landlords and found that 14% of them admitted to purposely delaying or disregarding issues reported by their tenants.
Tenants Contributed Too
A separate survey polled tenants on various questions.
One that stuck out is that 57% of renters say it’s reasonable to withhold rent payments if their landlord is not addressing their issues.
No Maintenance, No Check?
Funny how many landlords may feel the same way when tenants don’t pay rent. Should they withhold repairs until rent is paid?
While things like no hot water, no electricity, and pest control are urgent matters landlords should take care of immediately, other notable tenant complaints from the survey include pest problems, lack of communication with the landlord, and the top complaint was maintenance repairs.
