What’s With All the Flood Warnings Still?

What’s with all the flood warnings? They’ve been around what seems like forever now. Why are they still here? In short, rivers are still in flood stage.

With all the rain that we’ve gotten over the last few weeks and months, area streams, creeks, and rivers are still high. High enough to prompt the flood warnings to continue. Flood warnings continue for parts of the Sabine River and parts of the Neches River.

The Sabine River near Hawkins is still in its “minor” flood stage. However, it is expected to go down over the coming days. Forecasts indicate it will drop to the “action” stage by Friday, then should drop out of flood stage by Sunday.

The Neches River near Neches is also in its “minor” flood stage. Like the Sabine River, the Neches River is expected to go down over the next few days.

These rivers and their high water levels have prompted the National Weather Service to keep the flood warnings into the weekend.

Now while the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service and their forecast models for the river levels are expected to go down, some heavy rain could change that. The good news is that we are expecting dry time this weekend, and that should allow river levels to drop, and hopefully, that means the flood warnings will be dropped as well.

Even though river levels are expected to go down, it’s important to be mindful of the fact that water levels could still be high along these rivers over the coming days.
