Tyler Girl Scouts Are Thinking Globally, Earn New Patch
A group of more than a hundred Girls Scouts got together last week to earn a new patch, and they created some pretty impressive global displays to do it.
Oh, and do they have any cookies left?
The Girls Scouts of Northeast Texas Council covers all of Tyler, Longview, Kilgore, and Palestine, over to Dallas, and up to the Red River. It's a huge area that includes lots of troops, and our own Tyler Girl Scouts were part of an event last week with others from that home council, to recognize World Thinking Day.
Did you know that February 22 is the day to think globally? The Girls Scouts did. And they created displays recognizing many different countries, including Brazil, Mexico, Ireland, Egypt, and Scotland to showcase food and traditions and learn about different cultures. That earns the troops the World Thinking Day patch.
Now, about those cookies. You've probably seen the Girl Scouts set up outside different stores across East Texas over the past couple of weeks, and their parents may have passed the order form around the office. If you can resist those scouts and those delicious cookies you have a will of steel. And you might be a little bit heartless too! Haha. We're always looking for ways to help the good kids of East Texas. But the Tyler and Longview scouts appear to be done selling the cookies for this year, and the sales move south to Nacogdoches and Lufkin, and the San Jacinto Council for the next few weeks.
If you're like most of us, you probably have a stash of Thin Mints in the freezer that will last you another week or two. Thanks, Scouts for the cookies, and congrats on the patch!
We're always looking for good stories about the things your kids are up to, so if you've got one, please let us know! jen.austin@townsquaremedia.com.
