Depending upon the needs of you and your family the items on that short list will have a different priority for each of us. For nearly every Texan though the crime rate will most likely rank within everyone's top three things when it comes to finding some place to live because we all want to feel safe.

Unfortunately, not all Texas cities are immune from violence and crime. Even small towns here in East Texas can have a crime issue. Just because a city may have a small population doesn't mean there isn't crime there. That's just a fact.
When it comes to ranking Texas cities based on violent crimes for 2025, PopultionU has ranked the most violent cities in Texas based on the number of violent crimes per 1,000 people from 2021 to 2024. PopulationU defines a violent crime as rape, robbery, aggravated assault, and/or murder. The site analyzed FBI Crime data and came up with a listing of the 37 most dangerous cities in Texas.
For the third year in a row, Tyler is the only East Texas city that appeared on this list. In 2022 Tyler ranked 10th place, in 2023 it fell to 17th and now at the beginning of 2025, Tyler sits at 15th place.
