(KNUE-FM) There is a large portion of Texans who love the holidays and celebrating Christmas. Which is right around the corner. It’s a busy time of year as we try to get everything accomplished and still make time for friends, family, and holiday parties. Let’s hope this is common sense, but please make sure you have a sober ride home anytime you decide to have a drink.

TXDOT Data Shows a Dangerous Trend

TXDOT is reminding us once again that December always seems to be the month with the highest number of crashes caused by drunk drivers, last year there were more than 2,000 drunk-driving-related crashes. All of which could have been avoided by having a sober ride.

Yes, there will be extra patrols making sure the roads are as safe as possible and keeping an eye out for intoxicated drivers. If you’re caught drinking and driving there will be serious consequences, much worse than just your insurance bill going up each month.

The absolute worst part of drinking and driving is leaving an empty chair. That spot where someone was supposed to have Christmas dinner with their family but they aren’t here because of an alcohol related crash. Don’t put your family or another family through that tragedy.

It’s simple, have a sober driver planned before any event you attend. If you end up drinking, any alcohol at all, call a sober friend to get you home. Yes, there are also rideshare apps that can get you home safe as well. Whatever you do, don’t drink and drive this holiday season, or anytime for that matter.
