TEXAS: Can You Buy Alcohol On Thanksgiving, Christmas And New Year’s?

Families from Tyler to Kilgore, Dallas to San Antonio, Amarillo to El Paso, and all other points in between in the Lone Star State will be gathering and celebrating the holidays a few times throughout the next month and a half.

We'll be gathering around the dining room or card table enjoying the bountiful feasts and having a few beverages. Those beverages could be a glass of wine, a cold beer a chilled margarita on the rocks, or a straight-up shot of whiskey.

If you plan on having alcohol at your family Thanksgiving feast, or on Christmas Day or New Year's Day, you'll need to plan accordingly because you might get stuck not having that after-dinner drink if you run out of your favorite spirit.

It's ok to forget the cranberry sauce, just don't forget or run out of your favorite spirits on Thanksgiving because you won't be able to make a quick run to the liquor store to replenish your deficit.

Will liquor stores be open on Thanksgiving?

While you can buy beer and wine any day of the week during certain hours, liquor sales are more restricted in Texas. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) does not allow the sale of liquor on Sundays and the following holidays:

• Thanksgiving Day
• Christmas Day
• New Year's Day

Texas is one of eight states that restricts the sale of liquor on Thanksgiving Day, however, beer and wine may still be sold by grocery stores and convenience stores where legally permitted.

So you'll want to plan and make sure you have enough of the hard stuff to keep the holidays going.
