The Texas Star Mushroom, or Devil’s Cigar, is one of the rarest fungi in the world — found only in Texas, Oklahoma, and Japan. It “hisses” when it blooms and releases a puff of spores that look like smoke.

Texans enjoying state parks and the outdoors are warned to avoid the Southern Flannel Moth caterpillar—its venomous hairs can cause intense pain and irritation.

Mountain lions are amazing creatures that are rarely seen by humans but several communities in North Texas have reported an uptick in big cat sightings.

According to KXAN based in Austin, Texas, "The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center released its official spring wildflower forecast for Central Texas Wednesday morning." A representative for the Wildflower Center told KXAN that the upcoming bluebonnet season is 'looking really good.'

Once upon a time in Texas, black bears had been a hunting target to the point where their presence was almost nil. However, they're back according to Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Given that the Lone Star State has the largest number of snakes than any other U.S. state, it's good to be aware while enjoying our Texas lakes.
