This Saturday, June 2, in Texas, is Free Fishing Day. That means, you can fish any public body of water in Texas without a fishing license for the day.

This is also kicks off National Fishing and Boating Week.

There are many other events going on across the state on Saturday to celebrate the day for new or experienced fishermen or women, including in Athens.

  • The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center - Catfishing tournament - 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. - Free admission, free food and drinks and free entry into a catfish tournament with all tackle and bait provided. Anglers may fish as individuals or as teams with an adult assisting a child to win fun prizes.

Free Fishing Day is on the first Saturday of June every year in Texas.
