While Tyler is a beautiful place to call home, there are lots of tremendous places to live in East Texas, which is why I also wanted to take the time to highlight the 10 safest neighborhoods around Longview, Texas. Whether you're looking to buy a home in East Texas or have lived here for years, it's always interesting to see where the safest areas are according to the data.
The list of the safest neighborhoods in Longview was created by a formula by Neighborhood Scout. According to their report Longview is the 49th largest community in the state of Texas with a population a little over 81,000. It was interesting to see that the website states that Longview is safer than 12% of U.S. Cities but Tyler was only 10% safer.

There were a couple key metrics when putting this list together including the number of crimes committed, the crime rate per 1,000 residents, the number of violent crimes in the area, the number of property crimes, and lastly the number of crimes per square mile. In Texas there is approximately 27 crimes per square mile, but in Longview that number jumps to 42 crimes per square mile.

It was encouraging to see that violent crimes are lower in Longview than the average in the state of Texas. But property crimes such as theft are slightly higher than the state average, so make sure you are locking your vehicle every time you get out of it.
