Meet Your Neighbors At National Night Out 2025
(Mix 93-1) Once a year, neighborhoods across America come together as one big unit to celebrate community, giving neighbors the chance to get to know each other and learn a little bit about the people they are living next door to and down the street from.
Why Texas Celebrates in October
This one night is known as National Night Out. National Night Out is traditionally held on the first Tuesday evening in August, but in Texas, it's done a bit differently. Anyone who's lived in Texas knows it can be extremely hot and humid, and the last thing people want to do is leave the comfort of their air-conditioned homes to attend a block party outdoors.
In Texas, National Night Out is celebrated on the first Tuesday of October, when the weather is more favorable for block parties to happen. These block parties provide an opportunity for neighbors to strengthen their bonds and get to know local law enforcement officers by interacting with community members and the area's youth, promoting crime awareness and initiatives to curb crime within the neighborhood.
What to Expect at a Block Party
Many block parties will host potluck dinners, neighbors will socialize and play games in the street, that's been blocked off, of course, of course, with police officers mingling with neighbors getting to know the people they protect and serve daily.

Where National Night Out Is Happening in East Texas
National Night Out events are planned in neighborhoods in Tyler, Longview, Athens, Jacksonville, Brownsboro, Kilgore, Palestine, Big Sandy, Rusk, and many other communities throughout East Texas. There is a list of events happening around East Texas on KETK.
It is not too late to organize a National Night Out block party for your neighborhood on Tuesday, October 7. Simply call your local police department and let them know you'd like to host a block party, and then send out a notice to your neighbors by placing a flyer on their door or using a social media app to get the word out.

By attending a block party, you get to know your neighbors and build a stronger bond with the people you live beside. Who knows, you might rely upon them for something someday, or they might call upon you for assistance, and it would be nice to know a little more about them before that happens.
