Louisiana Man Arrested Transporting 90 Pounds Of Marijuana On Hwy 59
A Louisiana man was arrested Monday afternoon for transporting illegal substances through Harrison County, Texas while traveling on US Highway 59 in Marshall.
When you're on the interstate or driving a Texas highway you have no idea what the other drivers around you are carrying with them or what's in their trailers. For the most part, it's just ordinary and everyday kind of things for work or play. But every once in a while that car or truck next to you could be transporting some illegal substances.
On August 12, 2024 deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff's Department made a traffic stop on a vehicle for an unknown reason and during the traffic stop deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle.
During the search of the suspect's vehicle, Harrison County deputies discovered he was transporting
- 93 pounds of marijuana
- 10 grams of cocaine
- a Lortab pill
It ended up being a bad Monday for Louisiana resident Eric Duong of Alexandria for having illegal drugs and controlled substances.
He was booked into the Harrison County Sheriff's office and is now facing these charges:
- possession of marijuana over 50 pounds but less than 2000 pounds
- possession of a controlled substance PG 1 over 4 grams but less than 200 grams
- possession of a controlled substance PG 3 less than 28 grams
Through a social media post, Harrison County Sheriff Brandon Fletcher says:
Our deputies work tirelessly enforcing the Law in Harrison County. This is a great example of a minor traffic violation turning into something much bigger. I am proud of the line our deputies hold keeping drugs off our streets and I commend these deputies in being committed to their duties. We strive each day to make our community a little safer and will continue doing so every day.
Thanks to alert deputies for initiating this traffic stop and intervening and removing some illegal drugs from the streets. It's a win in an ongoing battle to fight illegal drugs within our community.
