Texas has a Surprising Limit to How Many Times You Can Get Married
(Tyler, Texas) - I got married almost a month ago. It's been a wonderful few weeks. We've been together just over six years so our learning curve isn't much. We know each other very well.
She is a wonderful woman that I will spend the rest of my life with. But I'm gonna a huge "what if" scenario out there, if we were to get divorced, and being that I've been married before, could I marry for a third time? Does Texas have a limit to how many times you can get married?
How Many Times Can You Legally Marry in Texas?
Texas does have laws about marriage on the books. One of those laws is that you cannot be married to more than one person, more than one person in another state or more than one person in another country. So no Sister Wives or Brother Husbands (or whatever other dumb TV show is on TLC) in Texas.
Another law is that Texas will recognize common law marriage. This is where a couple agrees to be married, lives together as a married couple and tells people they are married. There also is a Declaration of Informal Marriage that must be submitted to the county clerk where they live to be recognized.

Legal Age to Be Married
You must be at least 18 years of age or older to marry in Texas. However, there is a court order that can remove “the disabilities of minority of the party for general purposes” that could allow for someone to marry another person under the age of 18 (thelarsonlawoffice.com).
But is there a legal limit to the number of times you can get married in Texas? That answer is NO. You can get married as many times as you want. I wouldn't suggest it but if it floats your boat, go right ahead.
