Here’s Why Texas Shouldn’t Care About What Yolanda Salivdar Says
The loss of Selena Quintanilla Perez is still felt in Texas.
In the year of 1995, both her career and life where taken when Yolanda Saldivar shot her on March 31st. Following a standoff in the parking lot of the hotel where Selena was killed, Saldivar was arrested and taken into custody. The trial resulted in a conviction for Saldivar, and her sentence was life in prison, with the chance of parole in 30 years.
However, Saldivar continued to maintain that the shooting was simply an accident, and she didn't mean to harm the singer, even after the trial had ended.
Saldivar even claimed, in 2019, that a single new piece of evidence would constitute a new trial for her, however, her claim was rebuked by the prosecutor. But now, Saldivar is back in the news again.
Saldivar's New Special Claiming There's More To The Story
Recently, it was announced that on February 17th, 2024, a new interview is set to air on Oxygen where Saldivar is set to tell her side of the story:
This announcement has been met with a negative response, with many wondering why it's even being aired. Well, in this writer's opinion, there isn't any good reason to do so.
The Reason Texans Should Not Care About This Special
In the opinion of the writer, every time Saldivar has claimed that the shooting was accidental, it's been pointed out multiple times that she didn't attempt to help Selena after she was struck by the bullet.
In addition, during the much publicized trial, Yolanda's alleged actions came to light, with many questions raised. Saldivar has had her day in court. She was found guilty.
Simply put, it is time to let this story rest, and let us remember the music Selena brought us.
