New Microchip Scanners Help Reunite Lost Pets in Gregg County
(Gregg County, Texas) Helping lost pets reunite with their owners is becoming much easier in Gregg County thanks to new pet microchipping stations that have been installed throughout the county.
Why Microchip Scanners Matter for Lost Pets
Until this past summer, if you found a pet wandering your neighborhood and you were able to capture it, you would have to take the animal to a veterinarian's office or animal shelter to see if it could be identified through a microchip.

This past summer, Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center (LACAC) installed two remote microchip scanners within Gregg County to assist those who find animals so that they can be reunited with their rightful owners. These scanners were placed at the Toyota of Longview dealership and at the Gladewater City Hall.

How Microchipping Helps Reunite Pets Faster
Microchipping is an important responsibility of being a pet owner. Suppose your pet were ever to get loose and run away. In that case, this small piece of technology that is implanted between the animal's shoulder blades can help them be reunited with you quicker if they are picked up by a concerned citizen or animal control.
Future Plans for More Microchip Stations
The executive director of Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center, Jenna George, tells KLTV 7 there could be additional scanning stations installed throughout Gregg County, but at this time, they do not have immediate plans to add new locations.
Microchipping is very affordable for dogs and cats. LACAC performs the service for $20 per dog or cat and can be done without an appointment during regular business hours.
Could Your Town Be Next?
Let's hope that other cities adopt a program like this to make these microchip scanners accessible to residents in Tyler, Jacksonville, Kilgore, Lindale, Rusk, Sulphur Springs, Henderson, and other cities throughout the Piney Woods.
