The Very First Whataburger Location
On August 8, 1950, Harmon Dobson opened the very first Whataburger. It was located on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. The story goes that folks were so impressed by the size and taste of the burger that they exclaimed "What a burger!"...and the rest is history.
That first building is no longer around, however, a replica of that first restaurant is located in the parking lot of a Whataburger on Staples Street in Corpus.
Needless to say, you can't get a Whataburger for 35 cents anymore, but you can get that free birthday shake...and that will save you 15 cents off the 1950 price.
