A Rare Summer Cold Front May Drop Temps to the 50s in East Texas
September has arrived and in East Texas, that means you can expect the following:
- The start of football
- Halloween decorations in stores (actually, that started in August)
- Pumpkin spice anything and everything
Here's what September does NOT mean in East Texas
- The start of fall-like temperatures
- Bringing out the hoodies
- Turning off the A/C in your vehicle
The average high temperatures in East Texas still reach into the 90s for the first half of September, and triple-digit heat is not unheard of even all the way through the end of the month.
A Significant Cold Front is Heading Our Way?
The answer appears to be...Yes! That is if the numerous computer models and the official National Weather Service forecast are to be believed.
The Pineywoods will get its fair share of heat and humidity for the first part of this week, then the rain chances will be about 50/50 for Wednesday and Thursday, then get ready for a gradual 'cool down'.
By the time Friday gets here, the rain will have cleared out and make way for high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s with lows in the mid to upper 60s. By the end of the weekend and into the first part of next week, some weather models are showing highs in the low to mid-80s with overnight temps dipping to near 60.
Some areas of Deep East Texas could experience early morning temperatures in the 50s!
But...It's Still Summer
Triple-digit heat and sweltering humidities are probably still in our future, but, an early and temporary taste of fall is always welcome. I think I'll still hold off on my first taste of pumpkin spice until October.
