East Texans are always looking for ways to help their neighbors, and that's one of many reasons why East Texas is a great place to live. If you would like to help someone this week, here are a few ideas.

Fans are still needed for those that have no other way to cool themselves in this hot Texas sun. If you'd like to donate a fan, the Jacksonville Fan Drive continues through Thursday. Drop off a fan, or fans, at Bonner Street Plaza, located at 421 South Bonner in Jacksonville, between the hours of  8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

If you know someone who needs a fan, they can get a fan voucher at HOPE, located at 595 South Ragsdale Street in Jacksonville.

In Longview, the Junior League and Neiman Marcus have partnered with Buckner Children and Family Services and The ROC at First Baptist Church, to hold a School Supply Train for those students who need help getting supplies for the new school year. The drive is set for Friday, Aug.16 from 8 a.m. until supplies last, at The ROC of First Baptist Church of Longview on the corner of South Street and Fredonia Street.

Parents must bring an ID (driver's license or government issued ID); proof of school enrollment for each child (report card or schedule); proof of family income (current pay stub, benefit letters, Medicaid card); and immunization records.

Qualifying students will receive a backpack filled with school supplies, one uniform shirt per backpack, information about required immunizations, eye examinations, dental supplies, and haircuts.
