If you don't need to get out today, stay home. It's your best option today, unless you want to take a chance and possibly have to end up calling your insurance agent! East Texas roads are still treacherous. You would think that some major arteries and intersections in town to be clear, but that's not always the truth.

As I drove into the radio station this morning in this mess, I decided to document it through pictures. My drive usually takes about 12 minutes, but today took nearly 30 and rightfully so given the conditions of the road.

This is what my residential street looked like when I pulled out of the driveway.

This is Old Jacksonville Hwy. just inside the Tyler city limits. Although the lanes may appear clear, you'll run into ice patches at intersections and you can see here where some cars skidded across the lanes.

This is a little further north on Old Jacksonville Hwy. in Tyler, this is between Grande Blvd. coming up on Rice Rd. You can see the road conditions here worsen with most of the lanes still covered in ice.

I had to make a detour to take my daughter to her grandparents house and this is what it was like pulling up to Loop 323 at Kinsey Dr. The guy in the Jeep was fighting the ice and had to back up to get a start up the slight incline to turn onto the loop.

This is Loop 323. As you can see here there's only one little clear spot in the distance. This was a solid sheet of ice on a major artery in Tyler.

Now this is the place that gave me trouble! If you're familiar with the loop in Tyler, you know there are medians there that are at least 6" high. Well with the ice, there are no medians and huge chunks of ice occupy the turn lanes. If you have to stop here you'll most likely get stuck between some of them, like I did. Thankfully though there wasn't anyone behind me and I was able to back up and get a start when no traffic was coming.

So bottom line, if you absolutely don't need to get out today, don't. Stay home and listen to us all day!
