Dalton Days returns to downtown Longview Saturday, April 6th. This has been an annual tradition since the mid 90's of reenacting one of the biggest shootouts in the Old West.

This is when the Dalton Gang, consisting of Bill Dalton, Jim Wallace and brothers Jim and Judd Nite, came to Longview in 1894 to rob the First National Bank. Residents of Longview weren't having any of it and got into a massive shootout with the gang.

One member of the Dalton gang, Jim Wallace, was killed by a citizen. This promoted Dalton and his remaining members to retreat from Longview. They left with $2,000 in bank notes and coins.

Each year, the reenactment takes place on Fredonia street, the same street in dowtown Longview as the original shootout.

All of the events are free to whomever attends including the reenactment, a petting zoo, giant games, crafts, face painting and live music.

There will four reenactments, 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Bring the whole family and experience some history of Longview.

You can get more details at Gregg County Historical Museum website.
