Britain’s Favorite Drunken Duck Sobers Up After Bar Fight

Star is an Indian Runner duck, never seen without his trademark bow-tie and, until recently, was often found at British pubs  (many of which had allocated him his own bar stool), sipping on ales and munching on bar food.

The celebrity duck is owned by Barrie Hayman, who has had Star since he hatched.  In addition to being a regular bar-fly, Star is also well known for his charity work alongside Barrie.  The pair frequently make appearances at various hospitals and children's homes, entertaining the kids and just generally paling around.

But it looks as if Star's beer swigging days are over.

It seems that the duck knocked back one too many and found himself embroiled in a drunken bar fight with a dog.

According to Hayman, he and Star were returning from a night out at one of the duck's favorite watering holes when they encountered a pooch.  Barrie fully admits that Star instigated the fight and the hound retaliated.  Unfortunately, Star got his butt kicked and wound up at the vet with a split beak.

According to Star's Facebook page, he was given painkillers and is excepted to make a full recovery.  However, he's now off the booze.

Barrie thinks it's for the best that this beloved duck sobers up after the scary encounter.

Nevertheless, he says that Star will continue to make his regular appearances now that he is in recovery.  Just sans the alcohol.

Of the special bond he has with his feathered friend, Mr. Hayman says, "He just won't leave me and so we go everywhere together. I've not trained him to follow me. He just seems to like it and he is one fantastic duck.

"He loves to come to the pub, where everyone loves him. He is such a personality and attracts so much attention."

Star's "About" page on Facebook reads:  "I am an Indian Runner Duck. My daddy is my best friend. I love wriggly worms and I follow my dad everywhere. I watch TV with him, especially rugby, and I even share his beer."
