(KNUE-FM) A couple years ago we heard about this horrible online challenge popping up and I wanted to make sure to tell as many parents as possible here in Texas about it. The TikTok challenge nearly took the life of a teenager recently and I want to make sure that doesn’t happen to any parents here in Texas.

What Is the Benadryl Challenge?

It's called the Benadryl Challenge and I’m pretty sure you know what that means. Essentially, it’s encouraging a group of kids to take way more than the recommended dosage of Benadryl. It’s obviously very dangerous and parents need to talk to their kids about the dangers of taking pills that are not prescribed for them. It can turn deadly.

The Deadly Risks Teens Face

According to WMBF, the challenge encourages teens to take large amounts of Benadryl pills and that would create a hallucination effect. Unfortunately for one mother, she was forced to rush her 13-year-old to the hospital after noticing that she was acting strange and found the pills under her pillow. The young girl began hallucinating and her heart rate spiked to nearly 200 beats per minute.

Back in 2013, there was a 13-year-old from Ohio that died after attempting this same challenge.

How Social Media Fuels Dangerous Trends

The mom who took her daughter to the hospital recently after taking the Benadryl says that after looking at her daughter’s phone she found countless videos of this challenge online.

She wants to make sure this doesn’t happen to any other parents. Which is why she is encouraging all parents to speak to their kids about the dangers of the Benadryl Challenge.
