A Loose Pile Of Gravel In Harrison County, Texas Isn’t Yours For The Taking

Just because it's sitting there unattended, doesn't mean it's yours for the taking, apparently though these guys didn't know that. They were caught in the act of stealing gravel that belonged to the State of Texas.

While working on roads or preparing for roadwork, the Texas Department of Transportation and county maintenance crews will begin stockpiling necessary material along the roadside in advance of the project so that when the project begins they will have everything they need on-site to complete the job. All of those materials just sitting there are, of course, paid for by the state taxpayers, but it doesn't mean it belongs to you and you can go help yourself to it.

While out on patrol Sunday afternoon, a Harrison County Sheriff's Deputy happened to notice two guys loading up the back end of their car with gravel from a TxDOT stockpile. They were shoveling it in one scoop at a time. When the deputy approached the guys and asked what they were doing, they apparently had no idea they were stealing. According to the Harrison County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the on-site officer had a brief conversation with the guys about who the gravel belonged to. After the conversation, the guys were seen unloading their trunk just how they loaded it, one shovel scoop at a time.

In the Facebook post, the sheriff's office used the hashtag #cantmakethisstuffup and it's true you just can't make it up! The guys were released after unloading their trunk full of gravel and charges are now pending on the duo.

This patrol officer wasn't the only one who saw this taking place Sunday. Others who saw called 9-1-1 to report the gravel bandits and then they commented on the above images after seeing Harrison County's Facebook page.
