Why Would Anyone Smuggle Meat Into Texas? That’s What We Do Best!
Why on Earth would anyone bring cow parts into Texas? I mean, I think we've got that covered here in the lone star state.
According to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, CBP seized 22 pounds of raw animal body parts from an assortment of animals in early February at Dallas Fort Worth Airport. The traveler is a U.S. resident who was returning from a trip in Vietnam.
The woman traveling to Texas was referred to baggage claim where it was discovered that she had 22 pounds of raw pig, chicken and cow meat in her luggage. This included hearts, tongues, glands and other body parts.
The reason why traveling with raw animal parts (and other life not indigenous to our region) is carefully scrutinized is because meat products have the potential to bring disease to the states.
Dallas CBP Port Director Cleatus Hunt Jr. said in a statement:
Customs and Border Protection agriculture specialists work diligently to prevent the introduction of diseases into the U.S. These kinds of meat products are potential carriers for harmful diseases that could result in devastating effects on our agriculture industry.
