The front-man for Christian glam metal stalwarts, Stryper, believes that he could "fix" Van Halen, if only they would let him take them into the studio.

Michael Sweet, perhaps best known for Stryper's brief moment in the mainstream spotlight via the 1980s MTV hits "Calling On You" and "Honestly," as well as his band's bumblebee-inspired stage outfits, said in a recent interview that he was not at all impressed with Van Halen's most recent offering with original vocalist David Lee Roth, "A Different Kind Of Truth".

"It got some really good reviews and I'm sitting reading them thinking, 'I'm hearing something completely different.' I just didn't get it," Sweet said.

"Truth", which was the sixth-best selling album of of 2012 was praised as a return to form for Van Halen. It debuted on the Billboard Album chart at number two and one of the tracks from the album, "Stay Frosty" was named the 16th Best Song of 2012 by Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone readers placed the album as the fifth-best Album of The Year in their annual reader's poll.

Nevertheless, Sweet was not impressed. He told Metal Voice, "I'm a huge Van Halen fan - about as big as they come. You know when you feel a band is just going through the motions and just not giving it their best? That's what I felt with that album."

As to how he would "fix" the legendary band?

"I'd love to get a hold of those guys and take them in the studio and take them back to the old school days and help them make an album that's comparable with Van Halen I and Van Halen II. They'd probably have a platinum-selling album if they did that."

Stryper, meanwhile, is set to release their 13th album, "Fallen" on Oct. 16.
