It’s a well-known fact that both parts of the Avengers’ upcoming Infinity War one-two punch will unite essentially all of the heroes we’ve seen in the franchise thus far, including the Guardians of the Galaxy and maybe the Punisher (if Chris Pratt gets his way). So far, we hadn’t heard anything about how Doctor Strange will fit into the mix, even though his movie is the next big outing on Marvel’s slate this year. But now, Benedict Cumberbatch himself has all but confirmed that the Sorcerer Supreme will make an appearance in Infinity War.

Speaking to Empire (via Express UK), Cumberbatch mentioned that it was just so tough to synchronize the schedules of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and himself an upcoming film, and of course the only time all of those actors would be together is for Infinity War.

To get us all together will be quite something. That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter. So watch this space to see how that unfolds.

Now, he didn’t list all of the Avengers when he said this, so his appearance could just be a cameo, or one or two scenes with half of the ensemble instead of everyone. Taika Waititi hasn’t said that Strange is appearing in Thor: Rangarök, even though we’ve all seen that photo of Hemsworth holding a card with Strange’s name on it, so there’s a chance we’ll be seeing the magician again even sooner than Infinity War. Regardless, we’re certainly crossing our fingers that Strange will get up to some tricks with the Avengers soon, even he’s just sitting in a cafe with them eating shawarma.

Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4, with Thor: Ragnarök afterward on November 3, 2017, and Avengers: Infinity War the following summer on May 4, 2018.
