This time last year we were feeling the heat here in East Texas with 100-plus degree days. Add to that about 95 percent of the state of Texas was under a burn ban and that put a damper on Fourth of July celebrations. What a difference a year makes! It’s a bit wetter although just as humid, but we’re able to shoot our fireworks this year (so far at least)!
Driving through Chandler yesterday, I saw an awesome display honoring those military service men and women who have given their life to protect our freedoms that we enjoy today. The simple field of flags was an amazing site. Watching them fly in the wind as I sat at the signal light at Hwy. 31 and FM 315 was though provoking.
It’s prom season here in East Texas, and high school juniors and seniors have been busy planning the evening. And more importantly for the girls, they’re searching for the perfect dress. Everything has to be perfect for the young lady attending the prom right down to her accessories. Yesterday, we posted a story online highlighting six of the wackiest prom dresses. One of the dresses really caught my attention — not necessarily the dress, but the situation around it.
The Tyler Parks and Recreation Department continues its “Free Movie In The Park” series this weekend with a showing of a classic, “True Grit“, starring John Wayne will be shown on the big screen at Bergfeld Park this weekend for free!
Whether you’re due a refund or you gotta pay Uncle Sam, your federal taxes will need to be postmarked by midnight Tuesday, April 17. From past experiences, I’ve learned that if people are expecting a refund they’ll get their taxes done just as soon as that W-2 arrives in the mail, but those thinking they’ll have to pay a little or a lot will wait until the deadline to file that tax return (which I don’t blame them!).
If you’re looking to sample a variety of tastes from Longview area restaurants, I have the perfect event for you to attend then – the Taste Of Longview. Dozens of restaurants will converge upon the Maude Cobb Convention Center tonight for the annual event beginning at 7p.
When it comes to eating an Oreo, I can’t eat just one because I have to separate at least 3 or 4 of them to make a super Oreo! I’ll scrape the creme filling off and pile it all on top of one and save it to eat last! Whether you eat your Oreo like I do or eat just the filling or the cookie part I’m sure you’ve been doing it that way for years. Nabisco/Kraft is celebrating big today, because its the 100th birthday for Oreo!
The Grammy Awards are no longer about seeing who wins in what category, but about the performances. There has been some memorable Grammy performances over the last few years and some that have been just off the wall and leave you saying, “What was that?!” I've came up with 4 pretty good moments from past years along with one that left me saying, “What was that?!” Guess which one it was – see the contenders next!
Madonna is set to play in front of a world audience today, as she is the halftime entertainment during Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. Her lead guitarist, Monte Pittman, is a Longview native and will be front and center with her during the performance. His long time friend, Jamey Guida, called the Mix Studio Lines to give us a few details about Monte.
