For those of you who are intrigued by the paranormal, the East Texas Ghost Con 2012 is this Friday and Saturday (Aug. 17-18) in Marshall at the Marshall Visual Arts Center. Participants will take part in a ghost walk of historical cemeteries, seminars and lectures on the paranormal and more.
Do you believe in ghosts? Well, bring up the subject of ghosts and Marshall, Texas and there’s a lot of people who will admit, if only in confidence, that they’ve seen, felt or heard something that can’t be explained – a woman’s face in the window of the historic courthouse late at night, an empty rocking chair rocking back and forth, a house where the lights go on and off at random, and no electrician can figure out why.
What would you say if you could drive 85 mph — legally? Rev up your engines, because according to the Texas Department of Transportation, a stretch of highway under construction here in Texas could be the first U.S. to have a posted speed limit of 85 mph.
As a kid you always knew it was officially summer when the city pool opened! The Tyler Parks and Recreation Department is opening the Woldert Pool and Sprayground and Fun Forest Pool and Sprayground on Saturday, June 2 at 1 p.m. Get your goggles, floaties and suits ready kids!
Collin Boyd, who is eight years old and attends Owen Elementary in Bullard loves baseball. But recently Collin has had to deal with more than any 8-year-old should have to. Collin is suffering from undifferentiated soft tissue sarcoma. I can barely spell it, much less say it.
Who’s up for a good ‘ol wild west show? Oh, and don’t forget about the BBQ! It’s Dalton Days this Saturday, April 14 in Longview. Dalton Days is a fun and historic Longview and East Texas tradition that officially kicks off the rodeo season at the Longview Rodeo Arena. What is Dalton Days? I’m so glad you asked.
I couldn’t believe what I was reading today about a black ninth grader from Fairfax County, Va. The student, Jordan Shumate, was allegedly asked by his ninth grade English teacher, Marilyn Bart, to read a poem aloud by the African American writer Langston Hughes, and then insisting he read it in a “blacker” manner. What? Keep in mind that this student is the only black student in the class.
East Texas is blessed to have some of the best family owned restaurants. Most of these family-run restaurants have been around as long as I have. These days it's refreshing to eat at a place that is lovingly built from families that care about serving the customer.
