(Mix 93-1) One of the best things in the world to do, in my opinion, is visit an amusement park. I enjoy the atmosphere, the rides, the sounds, the roller coasters, and all the entertainment that comes with it.

Ever since I was about seven or eight years old and first visited Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, and then later Sandy Lake Amusement Park in Dallas, and AstroWorld in Houston, I have been hooked.

A Lifelong Love for Theme Parks

Before starting my radio career, I worked at Six Flags Over Texas for a decade and had the time of my life. It was so much fun.

On my days off, I could get into the park and ride all the rides I wanted and as often as I wanted. Shock Wave, Texas CliffHanger, Judge Roy Scream, Texas Giant, Flashback, and so many more.

ZDT’s Final Season Announcement

There is one park, though, in Central Texas between San Antonio and Austin, that I haven't been to, and time is running out for me to visit it because the park announced Monday (July 14th) that they would be closing in August.

ZDT's Amusements in Seguin posted on their social media account that this would be ZDT's final season, and the park will close on August 17th.

What Made ZDT’s Unique

The park has been in operation for more than 18 years and features indoor and outdoor rides and an indoor arcade with unlimited video games. ZDT's features include go-karts, drop rides, water slides, a rock wall, thrill rides, and the only wooden shuttle coaster in America, called Switchback.

It is sad that this amusement park with a very unique, one-of-a-kind roller coaster will lose its home within a month.

The Fate of the Switchback Coaster

Fans hope another amusement park purchases this ride and relocates it to their park. Or better yet, another amusement park operator comes in and buys the park to keep it in operation for years to come.

A Sad Trend in Texas Parks

It is sad when beloved amusement parks close. I've seen it happen to Sandy Lake in Dallas and AstroWorld in Houston, along with Joyland in Lubbock, and now Six Flags Inc. will be closing one of their parks on the East Coast later this year, too.

This small park will be missed by its very loyal park guests.

15 Defunct Six Flags Over Texas Rides That Have Been Removed But Not Forgotten

These rides once stood proud and brought joy and terror, in some cases, to those who rode them at Six Flags Over Texas. These rides no longer exist at Six Flags Over Texas. Yes, The New Texas Giant is there, but The Texas Giant went through a complete remodel and redesign and received an upgraded steel track and has a new configuration, and is no longer like the OG, The Texas Giant.

Six Flags Over Texas Mourns The Loss Of Former Favorite Park Rides

Six Flags Over Texas wrapped up a huge celebration in August as it celebrated its 60th anniversary. During the 60 year history of Six Flags, there has been a handful of memorable rides, attractions and shows that have had to be retired and removed from the park for various different reasons. Here's a look back at them as they were displayed for the parks' 'Fright Fest' event.
